2.75 miles near the botanical garden. A regular hike, except we got lost a few more times than usual. Luckily, our leaders seem to know what they're doing.

Reports

At about 10am we arrived at one of the several parking lots in Tilden Regional Park. [supreme leader] then checked our backpacks/rucksacks for things like a first aid kit, compass, whistle, and walkie talkie. After that we oriented our map and got a bearing. We then started our hike and after about 10 minutes, we stopped and discussed which way to go by looking at the map. After a couple of minutes of discussion we took the route to our right. Both patrols then continued to hike and after we reached a place with three routes, [supreme leader] took the parents to another route while both patrols followed [scout 1] on the route we were supposed to take. After about half an hour of hiking we regrouped with [supreme leader] and rested a little. [scout 1] then led the way to our parking area. We then were told that everyone is learning something new including the adults. For example we didn't know the route loops around. After that we talked about what we were going to do next week and then falled out. Overall this hike was fun because we learned about how some things on the maps aren't always accurate and we learned how to plan our route.

We went to the same place at the Tilden Regional Park, the parking lot near the Botanical Gardens. [scout 2] and [scout 3] and [scout 4] and [scout 5] all weren't there. We first figured out how to do the map with some compasses, then figured out where we were and where we'd hike. We then estimated the distance of the hike, which was a little over 3 miles. We went hiking, and there was a lot of poison oak everywhere. [scout 1] frequently stopped to check the map, and we got confused once. We kept on talking and basically ignored patrols, going in one big group. We went in a big loop, and at some point the parents and [supreme leader] left in a shortcut. It wasn't that bad, and we took a lot of breaks. When we finished, we walked back to the parking lot. [supreme leader] kept on telling us how we should stay in a line, but no one listened. It wasn't too bad. We ended at about 2, so we took longer than expected.

We arrived at the triangle area, at 10 am in the parking lot. [supreme leader] checked our backpack after everyone arrived. He did a scan on first aid kit, compass, whistle, walkie talkie, and map usage skills. We mapped our bearing and used the map to see where we were first. We then started our hike after like 15 minutes of preparing. We discussed a lot about where we are supposed to be heading cause we weren't sure. After half an hour maybe, [supreme leader] decided to separate from us and went with the parents to go another route. We took 2 hours and 8 minute according to Willie timer. Next time we would be more prepared on where to hike and overall the hike was pretty fun and sweated a lot.

My family and I arrived a little early so I waited a little bit before everyone got there. At about 10am everyone arrived and we had our backpacks and gear checked out to see if we had everything such as a first aid kit, compass whistle, and walkie talkie. After we checked our gear we were taught on how to orientate a map and how to find a bearing. We started the hike after we split into 2 different patrols and I think it was a pretty good learning experience to know how it feels to be a patrol leader in one of the 2 patrols. We started our hike pretty well though we did have to stop and discuss which way we should go by looking at the map. We continued to hike where we then split up with [supreme leader] going with the parents and the patrols going for a loop. After finishing the loop we went the route [supreme leader] had gone and regrouped with [supreme leader] and the parents. We then went back to finish off our hike. I honestly think this was a great learning experience for not only the new scout but for myself included as that I had gotten more experiences with being a leader and leading people and understanding what types of responsibilities people expect of you when you are leading.

At around 10 am most people get here, so then they check out backpacks. Then they taught us about the map and compass thing to find north and apparently [supreme leader]'s compass was the only one pointing in the wrong direction. After that we then got to start hiking. We took the wrong path and went to the No trespassing area, which I forgot what it was called. So we went back down and took the right path. For the rest of the hike we mostly stopped and looked at the map and [supreme leader] and the parents split apart from us which then we met back together. What I learned is that the map has an arrow showing where it's north and you can't always trust the map.

We arrived at the parking lot near the botanical garden at 10am. The scout leaders checked our backpacks for a first aid kit, compass, and whistle. Then we talked a little about maps and compass bearings. We started our hike, got a little lost near the beginning, continued the hike, and finished the hike in around 2 hours. We learned some things like orienting a map without a compass, getting compass bearings, map inaccuracies, and some other important things.
