Advancements

Four steps of advancement:

  1. Learn. Learn and practice skills required for advancement.
  2. Test. A leader tests you for mastery in a skill.
  3. Review. When you have completed all requirements you meet with a board of review made up of troop committee members. The board checks requirements and talks about scouting experience.
  4. Recognition. You are recognized in a court of honor.

Scout ranks:

Scout, focuses on scout stuff like the scout oath and law and the patrol method

Tenderfoot, second class, and first class focusing on camping, cooking, hiking, navigation, outdoor ethics, first aid, fitness, citizenship, leadership, nature, tools, and aquatics

Star, life, and eagle focusing on leadership, service, and merit badges


Merit badges are badges covering a large variety of skills.

Obtaining merit badges:

  1. Pick a subject. Find a merit badge, contact scoutmaster to get a merit badge counselor and a merit badge application.
  2. Contect merit badge counselor. tell them you want the badge, meet and start completing requirements.
  3. Show stuff. Once ready call the counselor and show your requirements.
  4. Be recognized. If satisfied your counselor will sign your application and your scoutmaster will award you your badge.
